Meta’s platforms are some of the most popular social channels out there – WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram. They’re crucial for social enterprises to reach and engage with their audiences. But the landscape is changing all the time. Here we break down Meta’s latest update, and what it means for your organisation.

What is Meta One?

Meta One is the latest change from the tech giant, and is a subscription that combines existing platform benefits with access to additional features across Meta’s apps including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. While the preexisting apps remain free, paid plans are being introduced to provide extra features depending on subscription tier and account type.

What do the plans offer?

The individual plans for regular accounts include expectedly normal features like custom fonts and app icons, new reactions, and the ability to pin more chats or see who views your story. Meta One Core is the starting subscription and Meta One Premium expands upon these features and includes better AI tools. However, you can buy Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp Plus accounts separately if you only want the new features on a specific platform.

Meta One’s subscription offerings also span to creator and business accounts. With four different tier levels of subscriptions ranging from $15 to $500 USD per month, Meta One’s tools expand to advanced scheduling, exportable analytics, AI usage, and more depending on each tier.

Why does it matter?

Meta typically generates most of its revenue through advertising. Thus, introducing new subscriptions creates another potential stream of revenue. This will provide users with an option to pay for advanced features as well as rely more on AI-powered tools. This expansion also raises questions about the future of social media content management. As other platforms might introduce their own paid tools in the future, we should keep an eye out for new changes.

Is Meta One worth it? Maybe?

It depends on how frequently one uses Meta’s platforms and which features matter most personally. Expanded AI capabilities and other app features may be appealing to some people, while others might think these subscription plans are simply another way to monetise some features that users could previously access for free.

Marketing teams should consider whether the additional functionality is enough to justify the recurring cost. New features like scheduling and analytics could improve efficiency, but businesses should assess their specific needs and review their social media marketing budget before committing to a plan. Some features might not be worth the expense, and relying too heavily on Meta could limit the flexibility of a business and the ability to diversify their marketing strategy. Additionally, due to Meta One having limited eligibility in the early stages with some benefits varying by location or account types, users should review the features and pricing closely before subscribing.

Meta One could change how businesses market their social media platforms. However, with varying subscription costs and no guarantee of better marketing results, businesses should carefully consider whether these plans suit their needs and budgets. We’ll be keeping an eye on how Meta One develops and what it could mean for businesses.
